Picture Bucks County

Palisades Community Foundation forged ahead with a long-standing goal to contribute in a meaningful way to the Arts community of upper Bucks County. On October 13, 2006 our Arts & Culture Committee launched a new event that was greeted with much praise. The 1 st Annual Picture Bucks County Photography Competition and Exhibition was held at The Barn at the Erwin Stover House in Erwinna, Tinicum Township. The event, a juried photography competition open to the entire community, was quite a success with over 120 photos submitted by students and adults vying for ribbons.

The event is an opportunity to celebrate Bucks County’s rich history, natural beauty, and dynamic contemporary life. All entries were exhibited at a Friday evening wine-and-cheese reception catered by the Upper Bucks County Vocational Technical School, and then again at Saturday’s public exhibition. The photography was juried by renowned photographers Derek Fell, Anne Gidley, and Gary Graves. We owe a great deal of thanks to these professionals as well as to our proud sponsors, Christmas City Studio, Olympus America, and the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation.

There was a student winner from each of the grades at each of our five schools. Adult winners were awarded 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place ribbons for color photography and for black & white photography. The “Best of Show” ribbon was awarded to Ruth taylor for her Winter in the Country. Most of the artists allowed the sale of their work with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the Palisades Community Foundation for arts & culture events.
