Dr. Thomas W. Free Special Project Grant
Stacking the woodpile a little bit higher
Tom left us far too soon. Many people wanted to do something in his memory so our family decided to create the Dr. Thomas W. Free Education Fund to help students and teachers in the Palisades School District.
Our family debated the many ways that donations in his memory could enhance education in the Palisades School District. In order to reach more than one student in a class we decided to establish a granting fund for special classroom projects. Teachers of grades K-12 in the Palisades School District are invited to apply for funding to pay for equipment, books, a speaker, a trip or other things that will enhance a topic within their curriculum. Because Tom firmly believed in the importance of a well-rounded education including music, athletics, science, English, history, foreign languages, art and mathematics, teachers of all subjects and disciplines are welcome to apply for funding.
In response to Dr. Barnes' praise of his accomplishments as superintendent, Tom's response was all he was trying to do was stack the woodpile a little bit higher. We hope this granting fund does that and in some small way continues the work Tom started.
Sincerely,
Joan Free and daughters Becky and Rachel
